   CO2 operated market in Sipoo

Huurre Finland has supplied the refrigeration system, refrigerated store cabinets and cold rooms for Finland's first fully CO2-operated supermarket, K-Supermarket Peltola in Järvenpää. The refrigeration system and cabinets stand for the latest state-of-the art technology which reduces environmental loads and energy consumption.

Test facility in use

The opening ceremony of K-Supermarket Peltola was held in August 2009. "We have high aspirations for the test facility: it must be reliable despite heavy use, and it must save energy and be environmentally friendly", says Ilpo Hakkarainen, refrigeration expert at Kesko.

CO2 system beats traditional solutions

The system supplied by Huurre Finland includes the following energy-saving and sustainable solutions:

  • Both the freezing and refrigeration systems use carbon dioxide as a refrigerant, combined with appropriate technical solutions
  • Energy-saving fans have been fitted in the refrigeration cabinets and gas cooler.
  • The freezer boxes have built-in integrated lids.
  • Lamps are no longer installed in the cold shelves. Instead, light is simply projected from the outside. This eliminates a heat source from inside the cabinets.
  • Efficient heat recovery

It has been calculated that the reduced environmental load achieved by the new refrigeration technology, during its total life cycle (average nine years), equals to the amount of emissions caused by driving a car 155 times around the globe.
